A tip on
your cylinder.
After our machinist bores and hones
a block or cylinder, he will rinse the cylinder in solvent. The solvent
doesn't remove all the grit from the cylinder walls. You must wash the
cylinder or block with soap and water. Also you may notice on some
blocks that metal chips fall out, meaning there are chips down in all
the nooks and crannies. These must be blown out with compressed air
before washing the cylinder with soap and water. Be sure to put oil on
the cylinders before the water dries, or it will rust the cylinder
walls.
NOTE:
If You
decide to do your own work, Midway Machine recommends the following
preliminary
work to be performed by a qualified mechanic prior to installing new
pistons. If the old piston has failed, determine the cause and remedy
the problem before replacing. Air leaks and/or a lean fuel mixture are
the two biggest causes of burned pistons. In cases where any part of
the old piston is broken or burned through, the crankcase should be
disassembled and throughly flushed of any debris."
